Ultrasound

I had an ultrasound yesterday. Justin and Maddy were really looking forward to seeing pictures of the baby, but if it weren't for that, i would have walked out 5 minutes in. What a demeaning experience. There is NO use whatsoever for those stupid gowns they make you wear, or most of thier policies, for that matter. I have never met a person with as little of a sense of humour as the woman who did my ultrasound. At one point, I was really uncomfortable (hip has been bothering me immensly) and wanted to draw my knees up slightly. I asked her if it would interfere, and she said no. So I started to move. She stopped me, and said I had to stay in the flat on your back position. Why? I ask. It's policy, she replies. I will not continue with this ultrasound if you move. Thanks a lot bitch. Anyway, they also charge you $15 !!! a photo. So I ask if I can get a multiple discount if I get 4 on a CD. With a complete strait face, she does the math outloud, and reports that it will be $60 for 4 photo's. Thanks again. Anyway, here is the picture we got. I am swearing off the entire medical establishment. I will never have another unneccessary ultrasound again.

It better be a good ultrasound photo for $15. Maybe it costs $15 to decifer the body parts and label them. I think that the deregulation of medical services here in Alberta is a bit too much.

It was funny... when Leah asked both the ultrasound technician and receptionist what they thought of the $15 fee, they both said that their opinion did not matter, and refused to comment.

While Leah was getting the ultrasound, Maddy and I had to stay in the waiting room for a half an hour. The only children's reading material they had was an 8 page book about owls. Each page had 8 words and the most. It said things like "owls live in barns." and "Farmers like owls because they eat mice". That killed about 30 seconds of the wait and the rest of the time, I was having to pick the four year old up off of the floor and answer "I don't know" to the question "When can we see the baby?" about... 100 times. We were not allowed in the room for the first half an hour because it was against policy, though in Newfoundland, I was present for the entire ultrasound. There, I was even encouraged to attend.

I'd like to know who dreamed up these "policies" at this medical imaging company. These policies are obviously geared toward the comfort of the employee and not of the patient. In my opinion, if you don't CARE, you shouldn't be involved in HEALTH CARE. That goes for individuals and corporations alike.
